AUSTIN – Tarleton track and field has a pair of 400m hurdlers on par with the Western Athletic Conference’s best.
That much was made clear on Thursday in the first day of action at the Texas Relays, as Chandee Bachmeyer and Brady Sisneroz set personal records and entered the top-five of the conference’s performance list in the event.
Bachmeyer clocked in at 1:05.82 in her first time racing collegiately in the event. A heptathlete, the junior now ranks third in the WAC in the 400m hurdles. Her performance built off a strong showing on Saturday at the Wes Kittley ACU Invitational. Bachmeyer placed 10th in the long jump (17′ 5.25″) and helped a 4x400m relay team finish fifth in 4:03.02.
She was the first of 11 athletes slated to compete for Tarleton.
Bright lights and a big stage clearly were not too big for Sisneroz, a freshman from Rogers, Texas. Sisneroz surpassed his personal record by more than a second, crossing the finish line in 55.98. His time is fifth-best in the WAC and tops among all freshmen. Sisneroz claimed 11th place in the 400m hurdles in 57.03 at ACU.
Sisneroz will compete in the 110m hurdles alongside senior Cornelius Coleman on Friday in Austin. Coleman boasts the top time in the WAC (14.40) in the event while Sisneroz is tied for 11th at 15.59.
Tarleton will be represented in four other events on Friday in Austin.
The Texans’ women’s 4x100m relay team of Jasmine McQuirter, Nyla Barlow, Reagan Gallagher and Hanna Dudley kicks things at 1 p.m. CT. The 110m hurdles then follows before Dudley races as an individual in the 100m dash at 2:30 PT. Track events conclude for Tarleton with the men’s 4x400m relay, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Anterius Brown, Zachary Martinez, Brandon McKissick and Alan Palmer comprise the Texans’ relay team. Palmer will then close the show in the long jump at 3:30 p.m.
