AUSTIN – With three returning All-Americans, the men’s 4x400m relay projected as an area of strength ahead of Tarleton’s first transition year to the Division I ranks.
That much was proven true on Friday in the second day of action at the Texas Relays.
Tarleton’s 4x400m relay team of Anterius Brown, Zachary Martinez, Brandon McKissick and Alan Palmer clocked in at 3:12.86 and advanced to Saturday’s 4x400m final. The Texans finished seventh overall in the prelims and now own the top 4x400m time in the WAC. Tarleton improved upon its season record – 3:16.52 at the Wes Kittley ACU Invitational on March 20 – by nearly four seconds.
McKissick, Brown and Martinez all earned Division II All-American honors and rank inside the top-10 of the WAC’s outdoor performance list. Brown, the reigning WAC Track and Field Athlete of the week, owns the top time at 47.68. McKissick ranks fourth with a time of 48.74 and Martinez is 10th at 50.10. Palmer anchored the relay and owns the school indoor record in the long jump (24′ 0.75″).
The Texans’ women’s 4x100m relay team turned in an impressive performance of its own. Jasmine McQuirter, Nyla Barlow, Reagan Gallagher and Hanna Dudley combined to cross the finish line in 47:02 and post the conference’s fastest time in the event.
Dudley anchored the relay team and later raced in the 100m dash. The freshman ran a 12.19 and her season record (11.98) is the second-fastest time in the WAC.
Cornelius Coleman and Brady Sisneroz competed in the 110m hurdles prior to the women’s 100m dash. Coleman recorded his second sub-14.50 time in as many meets this season, finishing in 14.48. His season and personal record of 14.40 is tops among his conference peers. Sisneroz posted his second personal record in as many days with a time of 15.21. Sisneroz came in at 57.03 in the 400m hurdles on Thursday and currently is seventh in the WAC in both events. The Rogers, Texas native has the fastest time in either hurdles event out of all conference freshmen.
Palmer competed in the long jump in addition to anchoring Tarleton’s 4x400m relay team. He notched a top mark of 23′ 3.23″ to finish 10th in the men’s ‘B’ division and nearly qualified for Saturday’s finals.
