STEPHENVILLE – For fans of Texan Football, it’s time to ‘Run It Back’.
After wrapping up the spring postponement of the 2020 season, Tarleton will now turn its attention to the Fall 2021 schedule which will begin on September 4 in Nacogdoches against new conference rival Stephen F. Austin.
Tarleton, who will begin its second year of transition into NCAA Division I, will begin its first as a member of the Western Athletic Conference’s revival of college football. The WAC discontinued its sponsorship of FBS football after the 2012 season, but with the addition of Tarleton, Dixie State, and five incoming programs with football programs over the next two years, it will revive its program at the FCS level this fall.
Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Lamar and Sam Houston State are set to join the WAC this summer while Southern Utah will join in July 2022.
Tarleton will open the fall on the road at SFA before making its home debut on Sept. 11 against Fort Lewis College. Tarleton State University is expected to return to 100-percent capacity at tailgate and Memorial Stadium this fall.
Game three of the season will feature Tarleton against future WAC rival Southern Utah when the teams meet in Arlington to battle on the gridiron of Globe Life Park – the former home of the Texas Rangers Baseball Franchise. The former facility has been renovated to host multiple sporting events, including football games. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Arlington on Sept. 18. Tickets will be sold at TexasRangers.com in the coming months.
In all, Tarleton will host six home games this fall against Fort Lewis, New Mexico Highlands, Midwestern State, Sam Houston State, Lamar and Central Arkansas. Tarleton’s longstanding football rivalry with Abilene Christian will be renewed in Abilene on November 13. The annual homecoming game is scheduled for Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. against Midwestern State.
