Texans blast UTRGV for second straight WAC win of the weekend

EDINBURG – Tarleton’s fourth doubles sweep of the season gave the Texans all the momentum Saturday afternoon and the purple and white downed UTRGV 5-2 for their second conference victory of the weekend.

“Today was another big win for us,” said head coach Elianne Miron. “Overall, we played much better doubles. I’m very proud of Elsa and Hadley for taking an early lead in their No. 3 match. Getting the doubles point really pushed the momentum in our favor and we rolled in singles.”

It was Tarleton’s fourth doubles sweep of the season and the second over a Division I opponent (South Dakota). In singles, Martha Makantasi pushed her current winning back to a team-high three in a row and improved her season singles record to a WAC-best 12-2.
