STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton women’s basketball’s projected 2021-22 backcourt is deepening by the day.

That much was made clear on Friday when head coach Misty Wilson announced the signing of Louisiana Tech transfer Tyler Jackson to a National Letter of Intent on Friday.

The Allen, Texas native played in 22 games for the Lady Techsters as a freshman, averaging 13 minutes per game. She was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14 after scoring a season-high 10 points along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 73-66 win over Jackson State.

In addition to a return home, Jackson’s move back to the Lone Star State offers her a second reunion. Jackson and soon-to-be sophomore Iyana Dorsey were AAU teammates with Texas U Basketball.

“We are excited that Tyler chose Tarleton State,” Wilson said. “Tyler reunites with former AAU teammate Dorsey, and we look forward to seeing the chemistry those two have on the floor together. Tyler is a 5’9 guard that is extremely competitive and physical.  She has the ability to score and defend and has done it at a high level in a tough district at Allen High School, as well as Louisiana Tech. Tyler’s size makes her extremely versatile and we look forward to using that versatility to or advantage against opponents.”

She becomes the third recruit to sign with Tarleton during the 2021 recruiting cycle. Jackson joins fellow guards Mason Jones and Crystal Smith.

Jackson arrived at Louisiana Tech following a stellar senior season at Allen HS. She averaged 11 points and 4.5 rebounds per game en route to first team All-District honors. Jackson was also nominated for the 43rd annual McDonald’s All-American team and was the No. 30 ranked player in Texas by Prep Hoops.

Jackson showcased her potential to play at the Division I level from the get-go, as she was named the District 2-6A Freshman of the Year. Jackson’s senior year was the high point of a high school career that saw her consistently perform against the state’s top basketball talent. She earned four varsity letters for Allen HS, received All-District accolades three times and was selected to the TABC All-Region team during her junior and senior seasons.

She will have four years to play four seasons for Tarleton.

The Texans are expected to announce additional signees in the coming days as the program continues building its 2021 recruiting class.
