LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Tarleton suffered a series sweep at the hands of New Mexico State Saturday afternoon with a 13-3 loss in six innings.

Tarleton got on the board first when Bailee Riggs and Georgia Capell reached to lead off the game. Morgan Medford plated Riggs with an RBI single and Katy Schaefer drove in Capell with an RBI single to put Tarleton on top 2-0.

New Mexico State answered with two in the first and one in each of the next three while the Texans managed one more in the third on a Schaefer home run. The game was tightly locked at 5-3 after five innings, but the Aggies broke free for an eight-run sixth to end the game early.

Schaefer led the team with a 3-3 day at the plate with two RBI and a run scored while Riggs, Medford, Jordan Dickerson and Alexis Hoang had one hit each to round out the offense. Julia Wernet, Tristan Bridges and Mackenzie Dunbar combined for the work in the circle.

Tarleton will return home for five games in Stephenville this week, beginning with a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. against North Texas and closing out with a WAC series against Seattle next weekend.
