STEPHENVILLE – Misty Wilson boosted her guard depth and offensive versatility in a major way on Thursday, as the soon-to-be eighth-year head coach announced the signing of Eastern Washington transfer Jenna Dick to a National Letter of Intent.
A Langley, British Columbia native, Dick made 39 starts for the Eagles in her two years spent on the Palouse. The 5-7 combo guard averaged 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game and led EWU in 3-point field goal percentage (.368) during the 2020-21 season.
Dick etched her name in the EWU freshmen record books in the 2019-20 campaign. Her 70 made 3-point field goals were the most by a freshman in school history and were a team-high. Dick connected at a 44.3 percent clip from downtown to lead EWU and rank third all-time amongst freshmen in program history. She also ranks inside the EWU freshmen top-10 in minutes (5th, 919), points (7th, 287) and points per game (8th, 9.6).
“We made Jenna a priority during the recruiting process and we’re thrilled she chose to be a Texan,” Wilson said. “Jenna brings us experience, skill, and a high basketball IQ. She’s an elite 3-point shooter and has proven to be a scorer against the level of competition we’ll see in the WAC. I can’t wait to see what Jenna achieves in her three years at Tarleton State.”
Dick is the eighth announced member of Tarleton’s 2021 recruiting class. She is the fifth Division I transfer Wilson has signed this spring, joining fellow guards Jurnee President (St. Bonaventure) and Tyler Jackson (Louisiana Tech), forward Nya Mitchels (UNCW) and center Hannah Matthews (Abilene Christian).
Dick has three years to play two seasons in Stephenville.
Her shooting stroke already put one Western Athletic Conference foe on notice. Dick torched Grand Canyon and its full court press from the perimeter in a game on Dec. 14, scoring a team-high 17 points on 5-8 shooting behind the arc.
She scored in double figures on six separate occasions across 18 starts as a sophomore. Her top performance came in a 78-57 win over Weber State on Jan. 7 when she set season highs in points (21) and assists (6). Dick went 7-12 from the field and drained 6-10 attempts from downtown. Dick shot at or above 50 percent from the field seven times in games in which she attempted at least six field goals.
Dick was among the nation’s best outside shooters as a freshman. She ranked 12th in the country in 3-point field goal percentage and was 75th in made triples. Dick was also 78th nationally in 3-point field goals per game with 2.33.
She appeared in all 30 games in her first year in Cheney, starting in 21 and averaging 30.6 minutes per game. Dick scored in double figures 14 times and eclipsed the 20-point threshold twice, including a career-best 28-point effort vs. Sacramento State on Feb. 1, 2020. She hit on eight attempts from 3-point land, which tied for second in EWU single-game history. Dick made three-or-more 3-pointers in 10 separate games.
Dick showcased an ability to act as a primary ballhandler and defend both guard positions as well. She was second on the team in assists per game (2.0) and dished out four on six different occasions. Her 1.1 steals per game ranked third on the team.
Prior to arriving at EWU, Dick was one of the top prep players north of the Washington State Canadian Border Crossing. She was named a top-15 player in British Columbia prior to her senior year at Brookswood Secondary School in 2018. As a senior, Dick averaged 24.5 points, 9.5 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 steals per game and shot over 70 percent from the charity stripe.
She led Brookswood to a third-place finish in the 2018-19 AAA B.C. Provincial Championship. Dick was named a Provincial First Team All-Star three straight times from 2016-2018 and was a 2017 Fraser Valley First Team All-Star honoree as a junior.
Dick intends to major in kinesiology at Tarleton.
