Thelma Naomi Hill Ward Ashlock, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Senior Care Nursing Center in Stephenville, Texas.

She was born April 14, 1925 in Goldthwaite, Texas to parents, William E. and Mary Ann Hill. In 1942 Naomi married Ned Erwin Ward who was in the United States Navy and began the well-traveled and adventurous life of a military wife with their two children, Linda and Ned. After retiring from the Navy, the family settled in Fort Worth, Texas. Naomi worked for many years at the TCJC bookstore and was a member of the Eastern Star.

After the death of her husband, Ned, she moved to St. Francis Retirement Village in Crowley where she made many loving friends. She was the head of the ceramics department at St. Francis Village for more than 20 years, producing many beautiful and treasured pieces of art. She was also very active in volunteer work, for which she was publicly recognized and received awards, including an award from the president of the United States.

She moved to Oakwood Assisted Living in Stephenville a few years ago for health reasons and to be closer to her daughter, Linda. She spent time traveling with Linda in the Santa Fe Sam’s Travel Club, where she made many cherished friends who will miss her terribly.

Naomi is survived by her daughter, Linda Johnson of Stephenville, and her son, Nedwin Ward and his wife, Diana, of Fort Worth; grandchildren Cody Johnson and wife, Luann, of Stephenville, Colonel Steven Ward, M.D. and his wife, Lisa, of Virginia, and Courtney Erin Tradewell of Arkansas; great-grandchildren Bayli, Tori and Clay Johnson of Stephenville, Sarah, Sam and Ben Ward of Virginia, and William and Dylan Tradewell of Arkansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ned E. Ward, husband Paul Ashlock, husband Bill Ashlock, ten brothers, three sisters, son-in-law Gifford Johnson, grandson Corey Johnson, granddaughter Megan Johnson, and many beloved cousins and friends.

Services will be held for Naomi at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N. Sylvania, Fort Worth, Texas 76111, with visitation on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome. The funeral service is on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 2:30 pm. Because of Covid-19 restrictions there will be attendance limitations, so please contact the family if you wish to attend the funeral service.
