Your Stephenville HS Yellow Jackets (27-8-1) have done something some would have thought impossible by shutting out the back-to-back state champion Argyle Eagles (29-10) in Game 1 of the Class 4A Region 1 final Wednesday evening in Denton.
With Trace Morrison’s two-run triple at the top of the third, the Jackets pulled head and never looked back. Behind the arm of Bryson Dill, who threw a shutout and allowed only four hits, the Yellow Jackets kept the Eagles at bay for six innings. Then Morrison took the mound to close the night out.
It wasn’t all Stephenville last night as Argyle started off the first inning like many other games, loading the bases in the first inning and later in the game getting a one-out double, but the Jackets silenced any chance of a scoring run every time the Eagles came close. After an error on Stephenville, the Eagles were able to get two runners on base, but your Jackets came back with game-ending double play that sent a shocked Argyle team home with a loss.
Game 2 is tonight at Abilene Christian University at 7 p.m. The Jackets will leave from the high school at 2:55 p.m. on Thursday and the community is asked to come send the boys off in style.
