Tarleton Steer Wrestler in 6th after First Run at CNFR

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University steer wrestler Walt Arnold flashed a 6.1-second time for sixth place in his first action Monday at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.

Four Tarleton rodeo team members competed Monday, including breakaway roper Maddy Deerman, whose second-go 4.6 was good for 11th place; goat tyer Rickie Engesser, who posted a 12th-place 6.6; and saddle bronc rider Jake Barnes, who earned a 68.5 on his second-round effort.

Bull rider Cullen Telfer took no score on his second bull of the rodeo Monday after an opening-round 78 over the weekend. Only three cowboys received scores in Monday’s slack session.

Four Tarleton students will be in the arena today. Arnold, Engesser and breakaway roper Sarah Angelone will all compete in the second of three rounds.

The CNFR continues through the week with the championship finals Saturday.
