Services for Sammy Smith, 87, retired business owner of Smith Supply, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken May and Rev. Weldon Branham officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 9:00 A.M.- 10:00 A.M., at Lacy Funeral Home.
Sammy was raised on a farm and loved that life. He always had a farm wherever he lived, and he always had a garden. The sunshine of his life were his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to play keep away ball with his great grandson. He would take his grandchildren to his farm on Saturdays where they ran and played and built forts. They also gathered ostrich eggs and picked the garden. When they were done at the farm, he brought them home and made Butterfinger milk shakes.
Sammy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Smith; and his four sons, Gary Smith and wife Julia, Ricky Smith, Randy Smith and wife Kelly, Robert Smith and wife Brandy; 8 grandchildren, William Smith and wife Kate, Hailey Smith, Brittany Smith, Sarah Smith, Mikah Smith, Harper Smith-Jones and husband Wade, Kaylan Smith and Paeyton Blue; 3 great grandchildren, Kayden Pevey, Olivia Smith, and James Brian Smith; one sister, Peggy Spinks, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his beloved grandson, Brian Smith; his parents; a brother, Homer Smith Jr.; and sisters, Reva Edgerton and Janie Manning.
A special thanks and appreciation to all his nurses, aides, chaplain and physician who took such amazing care of him.
