Troy Howard Ashcraft was the sixth child out of nine born to Ruth Laura Gray Ashcraft and Charlie Clay Ashcraft.  Troy was born at home in Sanger, Texas on April 11, 1930. He married Hazel Christian on November 25, 1976.  He passed to his heavenly home on August 27, 2021 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Brucado and three brothers, Clyde Ashcraft, Alton Ashcraft and Leroy Ashcraft. He is survived by his loving wife Hazel; sisters, Melva Gresham, Alto Jo Smith, Thelda Flanery and Marie James; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ashcraft, Dortha Turley and LaVerne Jones.

Troy grew up during the tough days of The Great Depression but reminisced about the simple life and his close, loving family.  Troy attended a one room school house and graduated from Ponder High School.  A few years later he was called to serve his country.  He became a Corporal in the United States Army serving active duty in the Korean Conflict.  He was awarded three bronze stars and several ribbons.

After the war, Troy went to an apprentice school at night to be a sheet metal journeyman.  He sharpened his skills to become an estimator and field superintendent. He worked many years for General Engineering in Fort Worth and later for Weldon Mechanical. A few of his major projects included the Kimball Art Museum, TCU additions, most Fort Worth Hospitals and even the Stephenville Cheese Plant.

Troy and Hazel also formed Ashcraft and Associates where they built many homes and developments in the HEB area.  Troy was the builder and Hazel was the decorator.  They were a good team.  Although Troy had no biological children of his own, he loved his many nieces, nephews, neighbor children, and children at the Masonic Home.

Troy worked hard during his career years and he continued when he retired.  He moved to a farm in Dublin in 1990 enjoying his farming, cows and even taking in stray cats.  Troy had a servant heart.  He was a giver in his community. He filled many roles in the First Baptist Church with building projects and as a Sunday School department director.  He was instrumental in bringing Christmas in Action to Dublin, supervising many projects to restore homes for those in need.

Troy was a member of the Richland Hills Masonic Lodge #1348 and the Masonic Dublin Lodge #504. He served as District Deputy, Past Master and filled many other roles. He was the president of the Dublin Investment Club and a dedicated member of the Stephenville Gideon Camp for many years.

Troy worked hard but he liked to travel and enjoyed an adventure as well.  He built a cabin in Red River, earned a private pilot license, enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, and motor cycle riding.  He and Hazel snowmobiled across Yellowstone, travelled by train across Canada, and enjoyed travelling to Ireland. They travelled with friends in the “42 club” and shared many fun times together.

Troy was a master story teller sharing his work and adventures with his many friends and family.  He was a Christian who loved God, his country and his fellow man.

Memorials may be made to the Stephenville Gideon Camp or Dublin First Baptist Church.
