After multiple pushbacks due to COVID-19, the Larry Joe Taylor Music Festival will return to Melody Mountain in September.
The annual festival will feature familiar bands and artists like the Josh Abbot Band and the Randy Rogers Band alongside newcomers like Kylie Frey and Bri Bagwell. The outdoor event will recommend masks and COVID-19 vaccines for their attendees but will not be enforcing the mandates.
Martha Taylor explains that while the coronavirus is a concern, they are also extremely cautious of the heat. While the festival is usually held in April each year, the pandemic pushed the event to the end of a Texas summer, meaning more precautions. The music festival will have multiple cooling units and misters for attendees to cool off by in the climbing heat.
Along with precautions for the heat and the coronavirus, the hosts also value physical safety for those that come to their concerts. A new perimeter fence at Melody Mountain allows the staff to set up checkpoints to ensure no glass bottles or weapons enter the area.
The festival will also begin a ride share partnership with the company Lyft to ensure attendees can make it home safely from the event. They also plan on bringing out a cell phone tower from AT&T to make scheduling rides on the app easier for those at the event.
“I feel like our community has always been pretty tight knit,” Taylor explains. “We want to keep it that way, the best we can as the crowd grows larger.”
The festival will begin Monday, Sept. 13 and will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 18 with the Randy Rogers Band. Tickets and campsites are still available at LarryJoeTaylor.com.
