STEPHENVILLE, Texas – It was a welcome sight to see the purple and white hosting an opponent at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts, and it was even better to see Tarleton roll through the competition with an incredible 15-3 match mark.
The Texans hosted Weatherford College on Friday in the Texan Invite and ended their fall portion of the 2021-22 slate on a high note. The Texans were perfect in doubles play, going 6-0 with an 8-0 sweep involved, and handled the Lady Coyotes in singles play 9-3.
The pairs of Martha Makantasi-Deniz Marcinkevica, Faustine Palatte-Natalia Komer and Jemi Aguilar-Elsa Boisson began the day with comfortable wins of 8-3, 8-2 and 8-3, respectively. It was a preview of what to expect the remainder of the day.
The Texans went 5-1 in singles in the morning slate, highlighted by Anna Hosking’s 6-1, 6-1 win over Maddie Farmer.
To begin the afternoon portion, the Texans again went 3-0 in doubles with wins by pairs of Aguilar-Marcinkevica, Palatte-Komar, and Boisson-Makantasi. The latter swept Agathe Vaillant and Marija Ristanovic 8-0.
Tarleton finished the day 4-2 in singles, with some exciting tennis to cap off the strong day. Aguilar (6-2, 6-2) and Marcinkevica (6-1 6-3) won comfortably. Hosking took a tough match to the wire with Ristanovic, coming out on top 5-7, 7-5 (10-7).
Aguilar starred on the day, chalking up four wins for Tarleton with a perfect 4-0 mark, two doubles wins and two singles wins. Marcinkevica, Makantasi and Komar each finished 3-0.
The Texans will have a hiatus from facing outside competition until the spring portion of the 2021-22 season. The spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
