The Stephenville Yellow Jackets (11-0) are Bi-District Champions and are headed to the Area Round of the state playoffs on Friday, November 19. Following a dominating performance against the Fort Worth Dunbar Wildcats, 21-49, last week, the Jackets now face the Paris High School Wildcats (7-4).

In order to make it here, the Yellow Jackets had to defeat the Dunbar Wildcats, who they faced Thursday, Nov. 11, at Tarleton Memorial Stadium in the Bi-District round. And that’s what the Jackets did. Defeat the Wildcats. Scoring early and often, junior quarterback Ryder Lambert and the Stephenville offense went down the field at-will in the first half, scoring 41 unanswered points.

Lambert was perfect in the air, throwing 20 of 20 for 373 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. His favorite target for the night was senior Coy Eakin, who caught seven passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Reece Elston caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Kallan Kimbrough caught two passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.

The Jackets made less moves on the ground, only rushing for 108 yards on Friday. Sophomore Latrell Tius had six touches for 17 yards in the second half, junior Julian Iribarren had seven carries for 76 yards and senior Zack Villarreal got a TD along with QB Lambert who scampered in for six points as well.

On the other side of the ball, the Jackets didn’t allow Dunbar to score until the fourth quarter. According to stats, there were 87 total tackles by 20 Yellow Jackets, nine of them for a loss of yards. Junior Taylor Bennett sacked the Dunbar quarterback and both Corbin Poston and Reese Young caused fumbles.

The No. 2 Yellow Jackets will travel to CH Collins Athletic Complex in Denton on Friday night to battle the Paris Wildcats who defeated the Dallas Lincoln Tigers 49-29 to reach this game. Kick off for the Area Championship will be 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for students and all sales are online.
