STEPHENVILLE – There’s a lot of new surrounding the Tarleton Texan Baseball program – new field, new lights, new conference divisions, new season.
“It’s almost like a brand-new era of Tarleton Baseball and we’re thrilled to get things started this spring,” said head coach Aaron Meade. “We have a strong group of returning players and an exciting group of newcomers that we fell will make us very competitive in the WAC. Spring nights under the lights in Stephenville are going to bring a new atmosphere to Tarleton and the Stephenville community.”
For the first time since 2017, the Texans will open the season at home in Stephenville.
Tarleton will welcome UT San Antonio for a three-game series on February 18-20 to begin the spring campaign. The Texans and roadrunners will play the season opener at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 with the later innings expected to finish under the newly added LED lights.
The UTSA series will be the first games of a nine-game homestand to begin the season. After the Roadrunners leave, future WAC member Incarnate Word comes to town for a midweek game before Eastern Illinois comes to town for a four-game weekend series. The season-opening homestand will wrap with matchup against Pac-12 member Washington State at 6:30 p.m. in Stephenville.
The nine home games to begin the season are the most in the program’s modern history (since 1988). Previously, Tarleton had twice opened the season with eight straight home games – the first in 1990 under Hall of Fame coach Jack Allen and the last in 2010 under Bryan Conger.
Over the following three months, Tarleton will have home-and-away weekend WAC series with members of the newly formed Southwest Division. The division is comprised of six of the league’s 13 baseball-playing members – Tarleton, Abilene Christian, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, UTRGV and Lamar. The teams will play traditional, three-game series without doubleheaders beginning on March 11.
Tarleton’s schedule will also feature games against Power 5 programs Washington State (March 2), Missouri (March 4-6), Texas A&M (March 8), and Baylor (May 3). The Texans will also host midweek games against Division I foes Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 16), Texas Southern (March 29), Wofford (April 5), and UT Arlington (April 6).
Full season ticket passes are on sale now at TarletonSports.com/tickets. Reserved seat season passes for all 32 home games are on sale for $195 per seat in the individual seats directly behind home plate. General admission passes for the entire season cost $120 and special weekend-only GA passes are $60. The weekend-only passes grant GA admission for the 16 home games played Saturday-Sunday.
Individual game tickets will cost $10 for reserved seats and $7 for general admission and will go on sale after the new year. Children aged five and under are admitted free.
