Stephenville Yellow Jackets defeat the Argyle Eagles in Round 3

The No. 2 Stephenville Yellow Jackets were able to battle back and beat the 2020 State Champion Argyle Eagles (11-2) last Friday night, 17-21.

Argyle was a touchdown ahead (14-7) at the half after scoring 14 in the first quarter. The Yellow Jacket defense didn’t allow the Eagles to get back to the end zone for the rest of the game and recorded two sacks and two interceptions. The only other Argyle points scored were from a field goal in the fourth.

Stephenville’s Ryder Lambert lead the Jacket, throwing completing 14 of 24 for 211 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also carried the ball 11 times for just over 33 yards and another touchdown. Senior Coy Eakin had seven carries for 24 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore Tate Maruska carried the ball 12 times for 59 yards. Eakin also caught the ball five times for 91 yards and another touchdown and senior Reece Elston caught 4 passes for 40 yards.

ROUND FOUR

The undefeated Yellow Jackets are headed to Pennington Field in Bedford Friday, December 3, to face the Melissa Cardinals (11-2).

Melissa comes into the matchup after dominating Waco La Vega (14-41) and beating Midlothian Heritage, 50-41, and they also beat Argyle 21-0 early in the season. Stephenville also beat La Vega, 35-7, and Heritage, 38-27, and Argyle and are considered the favorite to win, but not by much. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Springtown-Hirschi matchup, which is also Friday night.
