STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton soccer has signed its first Division I transfer to its inaugural roster as head coach Pete Cuadrado announced the addition of defender Macie Johnson out of Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday.

Johnson, 5-11, appeared in 18 games and made one start for SFA during her two-year run in Nacogdoches and was a member of a pair of championship-winning teams. She helped the Ladyjacks capture Southland Conference and Western Athletic Conference regular season titles in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Johnson will have three years to play three seasons at Tarleton.

Originally from Whitesboro, Texas, Johnson earned an opportunity to compete on the D1 stage following a standout prep career on the club soccer scene. Johnson played for both Dallas Texans Developmental Academy and Solar Developmental Academy as well as Solar ECNL.

Johnson graduated from Grace Christian Academy in 2020 and ranked in the top-10 percent of her class academically.

She intends to major in agricultural communications at Tarleton.

Johnson becomes the 18th member of Tarleton’s first-ever recruiting class. Cuadrado and assistant coach Rex Carrell publicized the addition of 17 players in November.

She is the second transfer Tarleton has added, joining midfielder Jenaya Brown (Laramie County Community College), who was recently honored as a United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I All-American.

Tarleton anticipates adding 5-6 more players in the coming weeks to round out its roster. The Texans are scheduled to begin play in August 2022.
