Obituary for Cynthia Mignon Golightly
Cynthia Mignon Golightly, homemaker, Mother, Methodist leader and Hico community volunteer joined the Angels, Archangels and all the Company of Heaven on December 22, 2021. Cynthia was born near Clairette, TX on October 21, 1934 to her parents Imo Nevada Duncan and Milburne Pinkerton Huey. She is survived by her husband of more than 70 years, Charles G. Golightly, her sister Celeste Leavitt, five sons (Charles Jr., John, George, James and Steven – all born in the former Hico Hospital!), 14 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Whilst visiting her Clairette cousins in the fateful summer of 1950, Cynthia met Charles and the two married in August, 1951, initially living in Lubbock, TX. After a brief sojourn in Oklahoma, they resided near Hico until 1964, moving that year to Tyler, Texas. In 1976, Cynthia embarked on 22 years of leadership of the Tyler area Al-Anon. In 1998, Charles and Cynthia returned to Erath County to continue the Golightly family farm business, there being no such creature as a retired farm and ranch family. Cynthia became a leader and youth mentor in the First United Methodist Church of Hico, she joined the Busy Bee Club, and engaged in community improvement projects such as the Family Life Center at the First United Methodist Church of Hico, the annual Tennis Shoe and School Supply drive for School Children and most recently a supporter and participant at the Hico Senior Activity Center. Her lifetime legacy of love and service continues in the lives and accomplishments of her constellation of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A family graveside service was conducted on December 24, 2021 at the Clairette Cemetery. A public celebration of her life and service will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Hico. All are welcome!
