STEPHENVILLE – A trio of Tarleton Baseball players have received a new set of preseason honors, this time from D1Baseball.com as they previewed the Western Athletic Conference ahead of the 2022 season.

The publication named senior London Green and junior Bryce Hackett to a list of top prospects for the 2022 MLB draft in the Western Athletic Conference. Freshman Kyler Mentzel found himself number two on the “Impact Freshman” list, behind only Grand Canyon’s Danny Avitia.

The 2022 WAC season preview includes projected standings, preseason awards, team by team breakdowns, and top prospects in the conference for the 2022 and 2023 MLB draft.

Green came in at number eight on the top prospects list. After an extremely productive debut season in the WAC that included a nine-game hitting streak and being named honorable mention all-conference, he figures to be a major part of the Texan offense.

Hackett was listed as the number 18 prospect for the 2022 draft. The junior right-handed pitcher led the squad in innings pitched last year with 68.0 and finished third on the team in strikeouts with 56.

Green and Hackett were also named to Perfect Game’s 2022 preseason All-WAC team earlier this week.

This is the second publication to recognize Mentzel, the newcomer out of Alvin, as a freshman to watch.

Tarleton begins its second season at the division one level on Friday, Feb. 18 as they kick off a three-game series with Conference USA’s UTSA.
