Tarleton shatters four school records on first day of WAC Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Day one of the WAC Indoor Championships conclude with the Texans putting on a show for the ages. Five athletes are advancing to the finals in their respective events and four all-time indoor school records were broken.

Jenna Brazeal and Nyla Barlow who both now hold indoor school records led the way in the women’s individual events. Brazeal, broke the 800m school record with a time of 2:17.83, placing her sixth and thus advancing to the finals. Barlow, competing in the 200m, stopped the clock at 24.53 seconds, making it the best indoor time in program history. Barlow finished eighth and will compete in the finals. Barlows’ night wasn’t finished, she moved her way into third all-time on the indoors list after her performance in the 400m. Barlow placed ninth in the event and set a personal best with a time of 57.32 seconds.

Jordan Anglin, Alessa King, Macie Evans, and Brenna Lee competed in the 400m with Barlow. Anglin placed 12th with a time of 57.58 seconds, which is third best on the all-time school indoor list. King finished one spot behind and set a personal best after stopping the clock at 58.38 seconds, it is the 10th fastest time in program history. Evans set a personal best with 58.87 seconds. Lee crossed the line at 1:00.59 which is a personal record.

Hanna Dudley, Breonna Campbell, Summer Croxton and Trinity Washington set personal records in the 60m prelims. Dudley finished the dash eighth and will advance to the finals after stopping the clock at 7.62 seconds. Dudleys’ time moves her to the number two spot on the all-time indoor records list. Campbell was just a point second behind, finishing with a time of 7.63 seconds, thus becoming the third fastest time in school history. Croxton, now holds the 10th best time with 7.78 seconds. Washington crossed the finish line in 7.95 seconds

Kyndal Gladson and Rese Schoonover competed in their first-ever pentathlon this afternoon. The pair cracked Tarleton’s all-time indoor top-10 list in the event. Gladson claimed 3,027 points, making it the sixth most, Schoonover collected 2,660 points, the ninth most.

On the men’s side, Justin Raines had himself a day. Raines started the afternoon in the prelims of the 60m hurdles. In the event Raines placed sixth with a time of 8.09 seconds, moving on to the finals, and now ranks third all-time in school history, that was only the beginning. In the 60m dash, Raines crossed the line in 6.75 seconds, winning the race and making him the indoor school record holder in the event. Raines looks to continue his incredible start tomorrow afternoon.

Alan Palmer once again proved why he is the greatest long jumper in school history this afternoon. Competing in the event, Palmer leapt 24′ 5″ (7.44m) placing him fourth and advances to the finals. Palmers’ jump broke Tarleton’s indoor record, he owned the record for two years after jumping 24′ 0.75″ at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships.

Reid Vincent, Jaden Hall and Tyler Stone competed with Palmer in the long jump, and all finished in the top-15. Vincent leapt 22′ 3.50″ (6.79m), placing him 12th and is forth best in school indoor history. Hall finished one spot behind after jumping 22′ 2.50″ (6.77m), making it the fifth highest leap. Stone set a personal record with a jump of 21′ 7.50″ (6.59m).

In the distance medley relay, the team consisting of Kevin Baez, Isaac Hutchings, Kevin Calvani, and Khristian Vastlik put their stamp on the all-time indoor school record list. The quartet finished the race with a time of 10:37.70, they are now the sixth fastest team in program history.

Day two will being tomorrow at 9 a.m. with the 60m hurdles. The field events will begin at 10 a.m. and the running events at 2:30 p.m.
