STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton soccer has added the first graduate transfer to its inaugural Division I roster, as head coach Pete Cuadrado announced the signing of midfielder Hendrikje “Kiki” Baurmann on Monday.
Originally from Meerbusch, Germany, Baurmann played four seasons at UT Martin from 2018-2021.
She appeared in 63 matches and made 23 starts over her four-year run in the Volunteer State. Baurmann, 5-5, tallied 19 points and assisted on nine goals for the Skyhawks. She helped the Skyhawks capture the Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season Championship in 2018 and 2021. UT Martin posted a combined record of 40-19-8 during Baurmann’s stint in northwest Tennessee.
Baurmann will have one year to play one season for Tarleton and intends to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree.
She chose Tarleton after receiving recruiting interest from Nebraska, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin.
“I decided to come to Tarleton State University because of its location, the great conversation with the coaches, and because I saw the benefit of and something exciting behind the fact that the soccer team will be completely new,” Baurmann said. “Everybody starts at the same point. I have a good feeling about the community and the team.”
Baurmann averaged 35 minutes across 18 matches and three starts for the Skyhawks during her senior campaign, helping the team to an 11-6-1 overall record and OVC Championship. She recorded her ninth career assist in a 4-1 victory over North Alabama on Sept. 2 and logged a season-high 49 minutes in the Skyhawks’ 1-0 victory over Tennessee Tech in the semifinals of the OVC Soccer Championships on Nov. 5.
As a junior, Baurmann made nine starts across 11 games in the spring 2021 season. She notched assists in a pair of 1-0 victories over Eastern Illinois and Belmont on March 2 and March 5, respectively, and assisted on the Skyhawks lone goal in a 1-1 draw at Jacksonville State on March 23. Baurmann played 65-or-more minutes on nine occasions.
Baurmann’s sophomore season proved to be her most successful. She made 11 starts – all of which came in conference play – and tallied five goals and four assists to finish with 14 points. UT Martin was victorious whenever Baurmann found the back of the net. She notched her first collegiate goal in a season-opening victory over Arkansas State, scored a game-winner in a 1-0 win against Belmont, tallied both goals in a 2-0 triumph at Austin Peay and scored her fifth-and-final goal of 2019 as a part of a 4-1 rout of Eastern Kentucky.
She carved out a rotational role on the most successful Skyhawks squad her freshman year in 2018. Baurmann appeared in 15 of a possible 19 matches, helping UT Martin post a 15-3-1 overall record and 9-0-1 mark in conference play en route to an OVC regular season title.
Baurmann excelled in the classroom as well. She was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor roll all four years at UT Martin and was selected to the OVC Commissioner’s Honor role during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
Before venturing overseas, Baurmann was a standout on Germany’s club soccer scene. She has been a member of the club team Borussia Monchengladbach (BM), which competes in the Bundesliga – the top flight of German football – since 2014. Baurmann made 43 combined starts for BM from 2015-2018, racking up 21 assists – 13 of which came during the 2017-18 season – and scoring six goals. She played in the first-ever U17 Bundesliga in 2015-16 and won the Niederrheinpokal in 2016, which serves as one of 21 regional cup competitions in German football and a qualifier for the German Cup in the following season.
Baurmann is a natural athlete. Her father, Dirk, played for the West German National Hockey Team from 1981-1983. She is the daughter of Susanne Baurmann and has two sisters, Philippa and Mareike.
The addition of Baurmann marks the fourth straight D1 transfer Cuadrado has added and fifth overall. Tarleton previously announced the signings of defenders Macie Witter (Georgia) and Macie Johnson (Stephen F. Austin) and midfielders Adriana Alonso-Gomez (Dayton) and Jenaya Brown (Laramie County Community College).
Tarleton’s 2021 recruiting class now stands at 21 members. Cuadrado and assistant coach Rex Carrell inked six players during the Initial Signing Date of Nov. 10.
The Texans begin competition in August.
