STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton men’s golf team has added the fourth member to their first roster in over 25 years, bringing in their first transfer since restarting the program.

Tarleton announced Wednesday that they have added Alvaro Huidobro to the team, a transfer from Milligan University, a private Christian school in Elizabethton, Tennessee. The Buffaloes are members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference in the NAIA.

“Alvaro is a talented young man with a ton of confidence who has been playing great this past year,” head coach Chance Cain said. “His experience and ability to compete at a high level is exactly what we are looking for and we’re excited to have him on campus starting in August.”

Huidobro played in six tournaments as a freshman for the Buffaloes, logging two top-10 finishes, including a silver medal at the Nick England Memorial as he shot -3 (68). He took sixth at the East Tennessee Collegiate with a two-round score of +1, shooting 73-72.

Huidobro hails from Gijon, Spain. He graduated from Blume National Golf School, where he participated in every Spanish Championship, both at the regional and national levels, at his age group from 2011-21. He won the U16 Spanish regional championship in 2019, and the U16 interregional championship in both 2018 and 2019.

Owning a +3.7 handicap, Huidobro’s all-time low score is a -7 (65). He finished tied-11th at the Absolute Amateur Spain Championship with a -10 score across four rounds in 2021, and won the IV Castilla Y Leon Cup Federation. Before leaving for Milligan, the Spaniard ranked in the top-20 of his home country’s U18 rankings.

Huidobro will be a sophomore when he arrives in Stephenville, set to study economics at Tarleton State University. He joins Max Bengtsson, Johnathan Kittle and Cristobal Sepulveda as the first members of the 2022-23 team.
