STEPHENVILLE– Tarleton volleyball dipped into the Division I transfer portal and replenished its roster with an experienced and versatile outside hitter ahead of the 2022 season.

Head coach Mary Schindler announced the signing of sophomore Grayson Schirpik out of the University of Houston. Schirpik also played her freshman season at TCU.

“Grayson is a talented player who will bring a level of maturity and leadership into the gym every day,” Schindler said. “I am excited about her work ethic as well as her ball control.”

Schirpik brings high-level experience to Stephenville as she faced off against some of the best volleyball programs in the country in her time in the Big 12 and the American Athletic Conference.

She appeared in eight matches and 18 sets as a freshman at TCU during the 2020 season. Schirpik landed 22 total kills, including a season-high nine in a Horned Frogs win over Texas Tech.

Schirpik then took her talents to the Bayou City.

As a sophomore at UH in 2021, she saw time in 21 matches. She was used primarily as a serving specialist, where she recorded two service aces in three separate matches.

Schirpik’s most impressive performance of the season came against UL-Monroe. She notched a season-high three kills to pair with four digs and two aces in a victory over the Warhawks.

She comes to Tarleton after helping UH enjoy one of its most successful seasons in recent memory. The Cougars posted 25 wins for just the fourth time in NCAA program history and finished second in the AAC for the first time ever.

“Her previous D1 experience will certainly be an asset as she has competed in some of the top volleyball conferences in the country,” said Schindler.

Schirpik was a four-year varsity letter winner at Rouse High School in Leander, Texas. She played all over the court in her time as a Raider, excelling as a hitter, on the service line and on the back row.

She earned 17-5A All-District honors in all four seasons along with 17-5A district MVP recognition in both her junior and senior years. The Raiders reached the state championship in her sophomore season and a regional semifinal appearance in both her junior and senior seasons.

She holds the program record at Rouse for career kills (1,536) and service aces (220).

To add to her volleyball prowess, Schirpik also competed in track and field and qualified for the 5A state championships in high jump.

Schirpik will study business while at Tarleton. She was on the Dean’s List at UH in 2021.

Tarleton’s 2022 recruiting class now sits at six members. The Texans previously added Joselyn Roberson, Megan Hodges, Breanna McDonough, Emma Burke and Isabella Martinez.
