STEPHENVILLE – Two of the league’s top softball Texans were rewarded with all-conference accolades Tuesday afternoon as Georgia Capell and Morgan Medford earned league recognition.

The Western Athletic Conference announced their complete list of All-Conference performers. Capell earned a first-team nod and Medford was named to the all-second team. This marks the second straight season on the All-WAC team for Capell and the first for Medford.

“I’m so proud of these two,” said Tarleton head coach Mark Cumpian. “They have meant so much to our program and I’m thrilled that the rest of the WAC recognized their value, not only to our team but, to the league.”

Capell was among the best hitters in the entire conference in either division. The senior from Midlothian hit .383 and led all reclassifying players in the nation in home runs (14). She led the Southwest Division in average (.383) and home runs, while finishing behind only teammate Katy Schaefer in RBI with 43.

While Tarleton awaits a possible postseason invitation from the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC), Capell’s career could have potentially come to a close Saturday afternoon in Stephenville. As it stands, Capell would finish her career as the program’s all-time leader in eight statistical categories including hits (267), home runs (64), and RBI (207).

Medford proved to be one of the nation’s best offensive catalysts in the leadoff spot. The sophomore from Denton hit .345 on the year and was one of the best in the WAC at touching home plate. Medford scored 46 runs on the season, including a school-record five in one game against Sam Houston.
