STEPHENVILLE – The Texans earned their 30th win of the season thanks for a 7-2 victory over the Lady Panthers as the Purple and White remains undefeated over the Prairie View A&M squad.

With the 7-2 win over the Lady Panthers, the Texans have now outscored them 114-30 across 12 meetings. Tarleton State is now 30-18 (13-8 WAC) on the season marking the third time in five years that the 30-win mark has been hit. The last two 30-win seasons came in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023 in which both saw the Texans advance to the NISC earning their first two Division I postseason victories.

Tarleton State once again got off to a quick start as the Texans put up a five-spot first and never looked back. With Tristyn Trull and Hayden Fox on, Kalyn Hill doubled to right center scoring both to make it 2-0. Hill didn’t have to wait long on the base paths as Kiana Gibson hit a first pitch shot out of the park to put the Purple and White up 4-0. Bella Hernandez then capped off the first inning hit her first career triple to score Casey Schultz who reached on a single as the Texans went up 5-0 after one in the Ville.

Prairie View A&M then got on the board in the top of the fourth following three shutout innings from Hannah Blincoe. Isabela Rodriquez broke up the shutout as she scored following a throwing error on the catcher to make it 5-1.

In the following inning, the Lady Panthers scored their second and final run of the game. Mia Nunez singled to center field in the top of the fifth scoring one to make it a three-run deficit for the road team 5-2.

The bottom half of the fifth inning saw Hernandez make a big impact once again in her return to the starting lineup. This time around she homered (two-run) to left on a 1-2 count to put the Texans up 7-2, the final. The homer marks Hernandez’s third of her career, all coming in her senior season.

For the Texans, head coach Mark Cumpian pitched by committee as the Purple and White threw five different arms in the midweek clash. Blincoe earned the start and tossed three scoreless innings allowing just a single hit while she sat seven Lady Panthers down. Kynlee Marquez (W, 4-2) then tossed the fourth inning giving up just a single run (unearned) on no hits while she walked three as she picked up her fourth win of the season. The fifth inning saw Sadie Beck get some work in the circle as she allowed one run (earned) on four hits during her single inning. Alexa Rehmeier then entered as she walked one before the Texans turned to Shelby Schultz as Rehmeier didn’t record an out. Shelby Schultz tossed the final two innings once again putting up zeros on the board and struck out two. She is now just nine strikeouts away from 150 on the season.

For the Lady Panthers, Cailin Massey (L, 7-4) earned the start and took the loss as she allowed five runs (all earned) on six hits and was also credited with a wild pitch. Massey went just two-thirds of an inning before the road team turned to Brielle Moreno who went 1.1 IP. She gave up just two hits during her time in the circle. Caden Young then tossed the next two innings allowing a run (earned) on two hits while she walked one. Madalyne Martinez then threw the final two innings allowing one run (earned) on one hit.

Tarleton State has a quick turnaround as they head to UTSA on Wednesday for a single-game midweek clash in San Antonio, Texas. The game will air live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available as well. Tickets are available for the Purple and White looking to support the Texans in person.
