SAN ANTONIO – The Texans earned their second win in two days taking down UTSA 8-4 on Wednesday following a 7-2 victory over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday.
The Purple and White got off to a hot start once again scoring three in the first inning this go around. Tarleton State has now scored a combined eight first inning runs in the last two games.
Hayden Fox earned the leadoff spot once again and didn’t need to see many pitches as she took the Roadrunners deep on a 2-2 count to left center to put the Texans up 1-0 on her first collegiate homer. Austin Germain then reached bases setting up Tristyn Trull for an RBI situation. Trull took advantage doubling down the left field line scoring Germain to put the road team up 2-0 in the first. Jaelynn Duke then dropped one just inside the right field line scoring Trull to put the Stephenville squad up 3-0 after the first half inning.
Shelby Schultz earned her team leading 19th start of the season and made quick work of the home team in the bottom half of the first sitting the first three Roadrunners down in order including striking out the leadoff hitter for UTSA.
After scoring three in the first, the Texans scored at least one run in the next four innings going up big on the American Athletic Conference member. In the top of the second inning, the Roadrunners intentionally walked Trull to load the bases for Kalyn Hill. That ended up being a mistake on the home teams part as Hill went to the plate and was patient drawing a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0 through two innings.
The third inning saw the Texans put another run on the board this time thanks to Braylin Pannill. She hit a shot to center singling as Casey Schultz slide head first into home to make it 5-0.
No surprise in the fourth as the Purple and White tacked on yet another run as the Roadrunners seemed to have no answers for the Texans. Duke grounded out to the pitcher but collected an RBI as Trull scored to put the road team up by half a dozen 6-0.
The fifth inning saw the Texans go up 8-0 thanks to a two spot by Germain and Kiana Gibson. With Hannah Reed and Fox on, Germain stepped to the plate and singled to right center before advancing to second on the throw as Reed dove head first into home to make it 7-0. Trull then reached loading the bases once again. This time around Gibson drew a bases loaded walk to score Fox to put Tarleton State up 8-0 and put the road team just three outs away from ending things early.
Shelby Schultz entered the bottom of the fifth just two strikeouts away from hitting No. 150. She sat down the first batter of the fifth putting her just one away. The freshman left-hander then issued back-to-back walks before allowing a single to load the bases. The Texans then collected out No. 2 of the inning with a force out at home to keep the run-rule intact for at least another batter. With just one strike remaining to close the doors early, the Roadrunners extended the game at least another inning as the home team scored off a wild pitch to make it 8-1 in the fifth.
The bottom of the sixth saw the Roadrunners add another run as Madison Hornback reached on a fielding error allowing Lindsey Davis to score to make it 8-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Orange and Blue tacked on their final two runs before suffering their 29th loss of the year. Katia Reyes walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-3. The final run came across as Jaylen Prichard drew a bases loaded walk as well to make it 8-4, the final.
