Stephenville – Services for Jimmy “Jim” Burl Sandlin, 89, construction worker, will be held at
2 p.m. Friday September 5, 2025, at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be all day at
Lacy Funeral home on September 5, 2025. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Marlin, Texas on April 19, 1936 to parents Cleaver Sandlin and Audrey
(Wynne) Sandlin. He married Imogene “Gene” Hall on December 12, 1958, in Weatherford,
Texas.
Jim was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was happiest outdoors, whether he was
working on his land or tending to the racoons.
Survivors include his wife Imogene “Gene” (Hall) Sandlin; his children Lisa Sandlin or Fort
Worth, Texas, Cheryl Riley of Bedford, Texas, Debra Sims and husband Rex or Colleyville,
Texas; grandchildren.

Jim was born in Marlin Texas on April 19, 1936 to parents Cleaver Sandlin and Audrey (Wynne) Sandlin. Jim married Imogene “Gene” Hall on December 12, 1958 in Weatherford Texas. They had three daughters, Sherry, Debbi and Lisa. Jim and Gene purchased a new home in Hurst Texas and moved the family from Fort Worth in 1962 where they remained until 1977 when they moved to their property and built their dream home in the country where he resided until his death on August 28, 2025
Jim was a construction superintendent for Brown & Root, Inc. and retired after 23 years of service. He was a skilled carpenter building a variety of structures over his lifetime. Jim was happiest at home working in the yard or his garden and feeding his birds and wild raccoons, he loved nature and being outdoors. Jim enjoyed genealogy and accumulated a great deal of family history which he had labeled and compiled in binders along with many family keepsakes that he proudly displayed in a display case. Jim was a Presbyterian and in his youth was a member of Stranger Community Church where he was saved as a teeager.
Survivors include his wife Imogene “Gene” Hall Sandlin, his children Lisa Sandlin of Fort Worth Texas, Cheryl “Sherry” Riley of Bedford Texas and Debra “Debbi” Sims of Colleyville Texas. Grandchildren Meredith Smith McCurry and husband John T McCurry of Colleyville Texas, Matt Riley of Denton Texas, Deborah Riley of Plano Texas, Jennifer Sims Wells & husband Justin Wells of Moseley Virginia, Joseph “Joe” Sims and wife Lori Sims of Castle Rock Colorado and Jessica Sims Guevara and husband Patrick Guevara of Austin Texas, Great grandchildren, Piper McCurry and Maddox McCurry, Grace Wells, Rebekah Wells, and Lucy Wells, Brody Sims, Annabelle Sims and Cooper Sims, Rex Guevara and Leo Guevara, Nephew Billy “Bill” Peevey and wife Cindy Peevey of Stranger Texas
Jim will be laid to rest in Stranger, Texas, at Stranger Cemetery alongside his parents and his sister and extended family members.
