STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Football remains one of the top ranked teams in FCS, staying at No. 3 in both the Stats Perform and AFCA Top 25 polls entering Week 4.

The No. 3 spot in both polls is the highest the Texans have been nationally ranked in the Division I era.

Only North Dakota State and South Dakota State rank ahead of the Texans in both top 25 polls this week. Tarleton State is coming off a 56-10 win at Central Arkansas in its UAC opener, improving to 4-0 in 2025. The Texans are just one of two teams in all college football to win its first four games (Iowa State).

The offense was clicking once again for the Texans last week, with senior quarterback Victor Gabalis throwing three touchdown passes without a turnover and senior running back Caleb Lewis having a career-high three scores. The defense recorded six sacks and a touchdown in the game’s first snap in Saturday’s win at Central Arkansas. Tarleton State has also allowed 10 points or fewer in three games this year, giving up just one touchdown in three games against fellow FCS programs (4.3 points per game allowed against FCS programs).

After its 42-0 shutout victory at Portland State on national television in Week 0, the Texans earned one of its best wins in program history in Week 1. The Texans defeated defending American champions, Army, in West Point Week 1 in double overtime 30-27. It was Tarleton State’s second-ever win over an FBS opponent.

That performance was followed with a 59-3 victory over Mississippi Valley State at Memorial Stadium in the home opener. The 56-point win by the Texans was their largest win in their NCAA Division I era and their largest margin of victory since Nov. 2, 2019 (a 66-7 win vs. Midwestern State).

The Texans are currently in the top 10 in FCS in 20 statistical categories in 2025, leading the nation in 10 categories. Tarleton State ranks first in blocked kicks allowed (0), blocked punts allowed (0), defensive TDs (3), first downs offense (88), passes had intercepted (0), passes intercepted (9), red zone defense (0.444), turnover margin (3.25), turnovers gained (14), and winning percentage (1.000).

Tarleton State is back home this week for Family Weekend, taking on Chattanooga in Stephenville at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in the gates will receive a free shirt, courtesy Triple Crown Ford.
