STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State kicker Corbin Poston nailed a pair of long field goals on Saturday in the Texans’ 52-24 win over Chattanooga, and earned conference recognition for his performance.
Poston was named the UAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the fifth Tarleton State player this season to earn a conference weekly award.
Poston went 2-for-2 from field goal range on Saturday, drilling one from 50 yards and the other from 49 yards, plus had 10 kickoffs cover 608 yards with seven touchbacks in Tarleton State’s win. Poston had the longest two field goal makes across the UAC this week, and is the only kicker across all of the FCS to make two field goals from 49-plus yards in a single game this season. His 50-yarder is the tied-13th longest field goal make in the FCS this season, and his 49-yarder is the tied-19th longest. Poston is one of two kickers with multiple field goal makes of 49 yards or longer (New Hampshire’s Nick Reed). Over the past 15 years, Poston is one of two Texans to make a 50-yard field goal.
The Texans became the only 5-0 team across all of college football thus far in front of a Memorial Stadium record 23,732 fans on Saturday. The Texans have scored 30 points or more in every game this season, 40 points or more four times in five games and now three straight 50-point games, Tarleton State’s longest such streak since 2018 (Nov. 3-17).
Poston is the second Tarleton State kicker to earn a UAC Special Teams Player of the Week award this season, joining Brad Larson. There have been three others to earn a weekly honor; defensive back Kasyus Kurns (Defensive), linebacker Yasir Holmes (Defensive), and running back Tre Page III (Freshman).
Other UAC awards announced on Monday were Abilene Christian’s Stone Earle as Offensive Player of the Week, Abilene Christian’s Rashon Myles Jr. as Defensive Player of the Week, and Utah Tech’s Asa Chatman as Freshman of the Week.
