STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Women’s Soccer ended in a 2-2 draw tonight in their matchup against Abilene Christian for Military Appreciation Night.

The Texans (7-5-3 overall, 1-3-1 WAC) faced off against the Wildcats (5-7-2 overall, 1-2-2 WAC) in a matchup that came down to an action-packed final few minutes. With only one point on the board for much of the game, a combined three goals were scored within the last 10 minutes of play. Jaycie Bass and Gabrielle Williams each scored unassisted goals to tie the match. Mikayla Kendall recorded seven saves for the night, and the Texans outshot the Wildcats 16-13.

Kendall made her first save of the night in only the fifth minute of play. The Wildcats took an early shot at the goal, heading the ball off a corner kick from right field, but Kendall was there to keep the Wildcats scoreless.

Moments later, Stevie Reynolds took her first shot of the game. After several Texans passed the ball up center field, Reynolds received it in the top of the box and fired it at the goal, sending it just barely left of the upright.

Kendall made another great glove save in the first half, blocking a high Wildcat shot sent from the top center of the box.

Shortly after, Abilene Christian would score their first goal of the night, ending the first half 0-1.

In the second half, Reynolds received the ball in midfield, dribbling through several Wildcat defenders before firing a shot from the top of the box and sending the ACU goalkeeper diving for the ball. However, she managed to get a hand on it just in time before it went into the goal.

With under nine minutes left in the match, Bass would put the Texans on the board. A Wildcat handball set up a set piece for the Texans at the top of the box. Bass sent the ball flying into the back right corner of the net, tying the score 1-1.

Abilene Christian would score another goal with under seven minutes left to regain their lead over Tarleton State.

In the 86th minute, Williams scored the final goal of the match, closing the gap on the Wildcats yet again. William’s goal came off a blocked shot by the ACU goalkeeper, whose dive save set up the game-tying shot for the Texans. This marks William’s second game in a row to score the final shot of the match for Tarleton State.

The Texans outshot the Wildcats 16-13 and recorded one more shot on goal than ACU. Both teams had four corner kicks for the night. Kendall played the full 90 minutes for TSU and made a total of seven saves compared to ACU’s eight.

Tarleton State will be on the road again next week, traveling to Utah for two conference matches. The Texans will start their week off at Utah Tech on Thursday and then take on Southern Utah on Sunday.
