STEPHENVILLE — The annual L.V. Risinger Memorial Bonfire will ignite Friday at the Tarleton Agriculture Center, and the university will provide complimentary shuttle service to and from the festivities from 6 to 11 p.m.

A cherished tradition since the 1920s, the bonfire honors L.V. Risinger, who famously defended the structure in 1939 from rival students at North Texas Agriculture College.

The towering bonfire is the result of months of dedicated planning and hard work by the Plowboys, one of Tarleton State’s spirited student organizations committed to preserving university traditions.

“The bonfire connects us all — it lights up our hearts, our campus and embodies the very spirit that makes Tarleton State family,” said Lathes Towns, Executive Director of Campus Life and Family Engagement within the Division of Student Engagement and Success.

The bonfire will be lit at 8 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to catch an early ride to the festivities and enjoy the food trucks offering snacks and beverages for purchase.

Rides to and from the Tarleton Agriculture Center will be available at two pickup points. The first location will be at Stephenville City Park, and those wishing to use the service should enter the park off Graham Avenue and Riverside Drive. A second will be on Tarleton State’s campus at the corner of Rudder Way and Cain Avenue.

Parking at the Tarleton Agriculture Center is strictly reserved, and those without an entry pass will not be permitted to park at the site. Attendees are highly encouraged to utilize the free shuttle service to help reduce traffic.

Clear bags are required, and no alcohol, food or drinks — including water — will be allowed on the shuttle or at the event. Water will be available on site.

In accordance with Tarleton State rules, only ADA-compliant service animals will be permitted. ADA-compliant shuttles will also be available at each pickup location.

For those unable to attend the bonfire in person, a livestream of the event will be offered at http://www.youtube.com/live/HaCoFMzrhqs.
