Tarleton State Celebrates Tradition With Annual Homecoming Parade

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University invites the community to join in a vibrant celebration of tradition and Texan pride at its annual Homecoming Parade Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and proceeding along Washington and McIlhaney streets.

This cherished event brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni and local residents to showcase their school spirit through an array of colorful floats and dynamic performances.

With approximately 60 entries, the parade promises a spectacular display of creativity with many floats adorned to reflect the university’s rich history and enduring traditions.

Special guests will be featured throughout the parade, such as Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley and his family, generations of Purple Poo, The Sound & The Fury marching band, Texan Cheer and the Texan Stars dance team, ROTC, the Mr. and Mrs. TSU Homecoming Court, and several student organizations.

The parade will begin near the Tarleton State Baseball Complex, heading northeast on Washington Street and turning northwest on McIlhaney Street. Onlookers are encouraged to gather on McIlhaney Street for the best viewing of the parade.

Announcers will be stationed at the gates on the corner of McIlhaney and Tarleton streets, sharing information about the various floats and special guests.

Visiting alumni are encouraged to join the breakfast and parade watch party starting at 8 a.m. at the Alumni House.

Following the parade, a statue unveiling will be held in Heritage Park to celebrate the brand-new monument honoring the beloved Purple Poo.
