STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State Football didn’t lose much ground in the major polls following its first loss of the season to a ranked team on the road.

On Monday, the Texans were slotted at No. 6 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll and No. 7 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. The Texans dropped four spots in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll and five spots in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll from their No. 2 ranking in both last week, which marked the highest Tarleton State has been ranked in program history.

The Texans are now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in United Athletic Conference play, with two games remaining for the Purple and White. Tarleton State still controls its own destiny, and with two wins in the two remaining games, will win at least a share of the conference championship.

In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans earned 1,118 points, behind North Dakota State (1,400 points), Montana (1,336 points), Montana State (1,289 points), Lehigh (1,183 points) and Tennessee Tech (1,141 points). A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.

In the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, Tarleton State earned 474 points, with North Dakota State at 625 points, Montana at 598 points, Montana State at 567 points, Lehigh at 521 points, Tennessee Tech at 488 points and Monmouth at 485 points. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

Tarleton State is one of two UAC teams in the rankings, with ACU jumping to No. 18 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll and No. 20 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll after Saturday’s contest.
