STEPHENVILLE — “Voices of Service: A Tribute to Veterans” will honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans with a community celebration featuring music, remembrances and recognition from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Tarleton State University’s Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

The tribute is a collaboration by the university’s Lozano Long Division of Global, Community and First-gen Initiatives, the College of Education and Voices of Service: Erath County Veterans Legacy Project, a Humanities Texas-funded initiative led by Tarleton State, and will feature performances by the Tarleton State choir and symphonic band as well the Henderson Junior High School choir. Student narrators will share excerpts from veteran oral histories collected through the Voices of Service project. Col. Douglas Simon, Dean of Tarleton State’s College of Leadership and Military Studies, and state Sen. Brian Birdwell (District 22) will join as guest speakers.

This event welcomes students, faculty, staff, veterans, families and community members from across the region to come together in reflection and gratitude for those who have served. The schedule for the evening will include:

— A welcome reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center lobby

— The main concert program at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center auditorium

— Live performances centered on themes of service, remembrance and belonging

— An opportunity to submit the name and branch of a veteran for recognition

“It is an honor to express our gratitude for the selfless service and dedication of the members of our community who have served our country courageously in the face of danger, defending our freedoms and ensuring our nation’s safety, both home and abroad,” said Dr. Sherri Benn, Vice President for Global, Community and First-gen Initiatives. “This celebration is but a small token of our immense appreciation and our humble attempt to commemorate our beloved national heroes.”

The Voices of Service tribute offers an opportunity to experience the intersection of art, history and community, said Dr. Eliel Hinojosa Jr., Project Director for the Voices of Service: Erath County Veterans Legacy Project and Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Tarleton State.

“This concert is more than a performance, it’s a living expression of gratitude and learning,” Dr. Hinojosa said. “Through music and storytelling, our students are preserving the experiences of local veterans and discovering that history doesn’t just live in textbooks — it lives in the voices of those who served. The Voices of Service concert brings those voices to life and reminds us of the power of education and community to honor service and strengthen our shared story.”
