Fall Rodeo Season Wraps at Vernon College for Tarleton State Teams

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University’s defending national champion men’s rodeo team took second place in the Vernon College Rodeo last weekend in the last stop of the 2025-26 fall National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Lone Star Region schedule.

The Tarleton State men accumulated 320 points in Vernon, just five behind first-place Angelo State.

Tarleton State placed three bareback riders in the top four at VC, including event champion Jace Lomheim, who scored 75 points on each of his rides for a 150 total. Teammate Clay Greenslade’s 72-76-148 was good for second place, and Devon Moore took fourth with a two-head 142.5 that featured a 73 in the long go-round and a 69.5 in the finals.

Also taking top honors in Vernon was Tarleton State bull rider Brenson Bartlett, who tallied an 83 in the opening round.

A half dozen Tarleton State saddle bronc riders finished in the weekend top 10, led by Coleman Shallbetter who shared first place with his 164 featuring a long go-best 81 and a finals-best 83. Devon Hay took third in the event with his 79-78-157, followed by teammate Waitley Sharon’s fifth-place 75-81-156 and a 76-74-150 from Greenslade. Montgomery Parsons was seventh with a two-head 147.5 on rides of 72 and 75.5 points, and Colton Lewis scored a 78 in the opening round for eighth.

Tie-down roper Travis Staley flashed the rodeo’s top finals time of 7.8 seconds to go with his preliminary round 8.3 for a second place 16.1. Brodey Clemons and Dalton Porch were third and fourth — Clemons with a 9.1-8-17.1 clocking and Porch with his 9.6-7.6-17.2.

Kreece Dearing and Enrique Munoz turned in times of 7.5 and 21.5 seconds to claim second place in team roping. Stran Schilling and Carter High took sixth in the event on the strength of an opening go 8.3.

Rawly Arballo gave Tarleton State fifth place in steer wrestling, posting a combined 22.1-second time, which included runs of 10.5 and 11.6 seconds. Teammate Porch was sixth with a 6.1-16.7-22.8 total. Walker Goffard’s 7.2-16.4-23.6 was eighth.

Tarleton State’s women scored 190 points over the weekend, taking third place behind Weatherford College’s 300 and Cisco College’s 235.

Leading the charge for Tarleton State was goat tyer Rylee Abel, who turned in the top long-go time of 7.7 seconds, added the top time in the finals, 7.9 seconds, and won the average with her combined 15.6. Jacelyn Frost and Courtney Stalvey split third and fourth place with identical 17.1 times — Frost on runs of 8.8 and 8.3 and Stalvey with an 8.6 and an 8.5. Rhiley Montoya’s 8.4-9.2-17.6 was good for eighth.

Clare Bjork captured the breakaway roping crown at VC, posting a 3.5 to lead the long go-round, then adding a 5-second run in Saturday’s finals for a first place 8.5. Kate Eiland took sixth in the event with her 4.1-5.8-9.9, Kieley Walz finished seventh with a 4.4-13.1-17.5 total and Meg Eiguren’s 4.1-14.1-18.2 was eighth.

Brooklyn Balch turned in an 18.43-18.6-37.03 two-ride time for fifth in barrel racing. Taber Garcia’s 18.53-18.7-37.23 was sixth and Maci McDonald was ninth with her 18.47-23.92.

Both Tarleton State teams finished the fall season in first place in the NIRA’s Lone Star Region. Action resumes for both squads Feb. 2 in Fort Worth.
