STEPHENVILLE — The Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at Tarleton State University, in partnership with the Lance Zimmerman Department of Campus Life, within the Division of Student Engagement and Success, hosted its annual Angel Tree event on Tuesday, Dec. 2, continuing a cherished tradition of bringing holiday joy to children in Erath and surrounding counties.
This initiative provided Tarleton State students, faculty and staff an opportunity to give back by adopting “angels,” which are kids in the community who might not otherwise receive holiday gifts.

“The Angel Tree project is a powerful reminder of our students’ generosity and commitment to serving others,” said Vice President for Student Engagement and Success Dr. Diana Ortega. “Their leadership ensures families in our community feel supported, and it reflects the very best of what it means to be a Tarleton State Texan.”
This year, the project supported 140 children with more than $15,000 in donations. Over 115 Tarleton State students, faculty and staff came together to ensure every angel’s wish list was fulfilled.
“This is an event that definitely shows how Tarleton State can give back to the community and really make a difference,” said Assistant Director of Leadership and Greek Life Marco Salazar. “Seeing our fraternities and sororities step out and take charge in these initiatives goes to show that these organizations and students are committed to leaving a lasting impact.”
The Angel Tree project was introduced on campus in 1995 by the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, making it a cornerstone of their fall philanthropy. Fraternity members lead every step of the process, from promoting adoptions to organizing gift collection and delivery, volunteering more than 100 hours to the project.
Promotion for the initiative began in early October, and members of the fraternity worked tirelessly to guarantee that each child was adopted. When someone adopts an angel, they are given a wish list for that individual, including clothing, toys and other essentials. Once purchased, the gifts are wrapped and prepared for delivery.
“This is an event that everyone really looks forward to both on and off campus,” said Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity President Grant Owens. “Seeing everyone from Tarleton State work together to give back to the community that has invested so much in us brings us all together and makes a big difference.”
