Maxine “Macky” Bernice Salyer, of Arlington, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on January 7, 2026, at her residence, at the age of 89.

Maxine was born on March 16, 1936, in Dublin, Texas, to Tommie Pauline and Walter Lowell Howell. She lived a life marked by joy, love, and unwavering faith. A devout Christian, Maxine was known as an exceptionally kind and caring soul, with a deep passion for teaching and helping others. Her gentle spirit and loving heart touched all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Salyer; her parents; her older brother, Curtis Howell; her older sister, Helen Orr; and her beloved twin sister, Katharine Fine.

Maxine is survived by her loving husband, Bob Hardy; and stepdaughter, Tammi Grimsley, and husband James Boyd.

 Maxine was the mother of James “Jimmy” Salyer and cherished her role as a mother.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kylah Carter and husband Ross; Brittany Salyer; Matthew Salyer and wife Tegan; Kymberlee Jernigan and husband Joseph; Meagan Adamson and husband Wade; Justin Grimsley; and Stephen Mitchell and wife Lacy.

Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Lailie Ward and husband Kyler; Maverik Carter; Marlie Carter; Daniel Lucas; Penelope Salyer; Eleanor Salyer; Jerry Salyer; Riley Grimsley; Paisley Grimsley; Pearl Jernigan; Henry Jernigan; Ivy Jernigan; Breken Mitchell; and Henley Mitchell. She was also blessed with one great-great-grandchild, Makoa Ward.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Harrell Funeral Home beginning at 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Upper Greens Creek Cemetery, with Mike Fritscher officiating.

Maxine will be lovingly remembered for her faith, compassion, and the deep love she shared with her family and all whose lives she touched.
