Tarleton State Men’s and Women’s Track & Field each ranked seventh in South Central Region

STEPHENVILLE — The Tarleton State Men’s and Women’s Track and Field programs each ranked seventh in the first USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings of the indoor track and field season.

The Texan Women were also ranked in the top 30 nationally, slotting in at 29th overall. Last season, in the final indoor rankings, the men were ranked 10th and the women’s squad was ranked 14th in the region. The Purple and White had not been ranked in the top 15 of the region prior to last season.

After two weekends of competition for the Texans this season, the Texans women have a total of four athletes posting six top 50 performances in the NCAA. Lauren Roy and Victoria Cameron each rank in the top 50 in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. Roy ran the second fastest time in the nation last weekend at the Stan Scott Invite. After altitude corrections, her 22.96 seconds is the second fastest in the nation. She also holds the 13th fastest time in the 60 meters in 7.25 seconds. Cameron is 12th in the 60 in 7.24 seconds and 36th in the 200 in 23.73 seconds. In the 400 meters, Emma Holmes school record, and Scott Scott Invite winning time of 53.97 seconds in 37th in the NCAA. Prestina Ochongor is the lone women’s field athlete ranked in the top 50. She posted the 10th best leap in the nation at 6.40 meters at the JD Martin Invitational.

On the men’s side, the field athletes have posted multiple top 50 performances. Sir Jonathan Sims is ranked in both the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, he is 14th with a best leap of 7.73 meters. In the triple jump he is 35th with a best of 15.52 meters. Lokesh Sathyanathan ranks 10th in the NCAA in the long jump with a best jump of 7.83 meters. Jalen Cadet also ranks 23rd in the long jump with a personal best of 7.60 meters this year. Davi Torres is 34th in the nation in the high jump clearing the 2.13-meter bar in the first meet of the season. Ca’terrin Cox is 45th in the country in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in at an altitude converted time of 7.84 seconds.

Tarleton State Track and Field will be back in action this week at the Robert Platt Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. The meet runs for Friday and Saturday at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
