STEPHENVILLE – The sun was shining in Stephenville for Tarleton State Beach Volleyball’s first home matches in nearly two years, and the Texans responded by winning every single set in dominant fashion against Concordia on Wednesday.
The Texans (2-4) won their first matches of the year in the second week of the season, rolling Concordia (0-4) in the doubleheader 5-0 and 5-0. The most points the Texans allowed in any set were 12, as they won all 10 matches in straight sets.
This was the second day in Tarleton State Beach Volleyball’s third year of existence, the Texans have hosted regular season action, the first since March 22, 2024, which was a doubleheader against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Texans lost 4-1 in each of those matches, making Wednesday the first wins in Stephenville ever for Tarleton State Beach Volleyball.
The weather was sublime and the crowd turned out for both matches on Wednesday, creating a fun environment in Stephenville at the Tarleton State Beach Volleyball Courts.
In both matches, Courts 2 and 4 played first, followed by Courts 1, 3 and 5. Tarleton State’s Hayden Huber and Bella Parayno played on Court 2 in both matches, defeating Hailey Dyer and Cylie Wong both times, 21-9, 21-8 in the morning, and 21-8, 21-6 in the afternoon. Huber and Parayno are now 4-2 on the season together on Court 2, owning the most wins on the team.
Court 1 also remained the same for Tarleton State in both matches, with Allison Bryant and Candace Ceballos defeating Brooklyn Fitzgerald and Emma Rosier both times, 21-6, 21-7 in the morning and 21-10, 21-10 in the afternoon. Bryant and Ceballos improved to 3-3 together on the top court.
The Texans’ Emily Vickers and Taylor Orris played together in both matches on Wednesday, on Court 3 in the morning and on Court 4 in the afternoon. The pair defeated Concordia’s Jade Romero and Kennedy Carter on Court 3 21-7, 21-11, then took down Summer Howard and Hannah Francis 21-7, 21-5 on Court 4.
In the morning, Tarleton State paired Camilla Chun and Christian Mitchell on Court 4, and Angelina Linke with Sofia Bendele on Court 5. Chun and Mitchell defeated Howard and Francis on Court 4 21-8, 21-6, while Linke and Bendele defeated Olivia Vu and Aniyah Tompkins on Court 5 21-7, 21-5.
Mitchell and Chun also played in the afternoon, Mitchell paired with Salome Galvez Lira on Court 3, and Chun with Theresa Habrik on Court 5. Mitchell and Galvez Lira defeated Romero and Carter 21-4, 21-12, with Chun and Habrik beating Vu and Tompkins on Court 5 21-8, 21-9.
The Texans are now 2-2 all-time at home in program history. They’ll play four more matches in Stephenville this season, facing Howard Payne in a doubleheader on April 9 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by an April 10 two-match day against Mary Hardin-Baylor at 10 a.m. and East Texas Baptist at 3:30 p.m.
Next up for Tarleton State is a trip to Belton, Texas, for the UMHBeach Spring Break Bash, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tarleton State will play four matches March 6-7 against UMHB, Central Arkansas, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Sam Houston.
