GREELEY, Colo. – Tarleton fell to Santa Clara in a four-set affair Friday afternoon at the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.

The Texans (8-5) showed tremendous fortitude, dropping set one in extra points 34-32, winning set three after falling behind 2-0 in the match and leading late in multiple sets.

Ailie Hair led the way offensively for Tarleton notching 13 kills on a .455 hitting percentage. Breanna McDonough and Grayson Schirpik followed with nine and eight kills respectively. Megan Hodges finished with 22 assists while Melina Maldonado added 21. Ana Costas led with 18 digs.

Julia Sangiacomo had a match-high 20 kills for the Broncos, while Layla Truitt finished with 18.

Set one was a crazy back and forth set. It was the first time the Texans and their opponent went over 30 points in a set. Tarleton found itself behind by seven with a score of 15-8 midway through, but reeled off two 4-0 runs to bring the score within one at 17-16, capped off by a kill from Emma Burke.

Tarleton looked to be in good shape as Hair landed a kill and a service ace consecutively to take a 25-24 lead. The teams proceeded to trade points back and forth until Santa Clara scored two straight with the score tied at 32 to take the set.

Tarleton won set three to avoid the sweep behind a match-high team hitting percentage of .385. The set was close through the first half, but a 5-0 run that saw kills from Schirpik, Emma Burke and Haley Flanagan gave Tarleton a 21-15 lead that ultimately was too much for Santa Clara to overcome.

Tarleton will end its trip to Colorado on Saturday with a match vs. Cal Poly at 1 p.m. CT. The match can be followed via live stats.
