Texans complete series sweep with drubbing of Stonehill

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton baseball completed a four-game series sweep of Stonehill College on Sunday, trouncing the Skyhawks 22-6 at the Tarleton Baseball Complex.

The Texans (6-2) have won six consecutive games. They scored 10-plus runs in all four games this series, progressively adding runs in each game as they scored 12, 14, 16 and 22 runs vs. the Skyhawks (0-4).

Tarleton plated 22 runs on 14 hits and was also aided by six Stonehill errors. Mason Hammonds went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI from the leadoff spot. He leads the Texans on the season with a .429 batting average, 1.100 OPS, 12 hits and four doubles. Trace Morrison was 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Cris Enriquez followed up his impressive day at the plate in game two with a two-run double and two runs scored on Sunday. Jake Escalon and Jack Wagner each homered on the afternoon, with Wagner hitting a solo shot to start the bottom of the second and Escalon hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Tarleton immediately made its mark on the game, batting around the order in the first and second innings, plating seven runs in each.

Hunter Day (W, 1-0) picked up his first win as a Texan, tossing 5.0 innings allowing five runs on six hits and striking out four. Zach Poe threw 2.0 scoreless innings, striking out two. Zane Badmaev threw the final 2.0 frames and allowed a lone run, striking out five.

Stonehill got two hits and three RBI from Trey Ciulla-Hall, including a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. The Skyhawk’s Jordan Marot (L, 0-1) was credited with the loss after starting the game and allowing seven runs in 0.2 innings pitched.

Tarleton will play at Oral Roberts next, heading to J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Golden Eagles are fresh off a series victory over the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos.
