STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State Women’s Soccer cruised to a 5-0 victory, in its final non-conference match of the season against Prairie View A&M on Saturday night at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.
With the victory, the Texans improve to 3-5-2 to close out its 10 non-conference contests. The Lady Panthers (0-6-0) remain winless on the season.
The Texans scored five goals in the contest, the second most in a game in program history. All five goals came from different scorers, with three Texans earning their first goal of the season. Stephenville native freshman Victoria Cameron notched the first goal of her collegiate career in the 29th minute of the game.
Mikayla Kendall earned her third total shutout of the season, combining with Emma Barnes for the season time this and their second combined shutout. Kendall earned four saves, while Barnes grabbed one on one shot.
Jaycie Bass tallied two of the Texans four total assists in the contest. The four assist matches last season performance against UT Permian Basin for the second-most assists in a game in program history.
Tarleton set program records with 27 total shots and 16 shots on goal. The Texans’ performance surpassed the old game highs of 21 shots set last season at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Aug. 22 and 10 shots on goal set twice last season. Tarleton State matched the program record for corners in game set against Texas A&M -Commerce earlier this season on Aug. 20.
Tarleton started the scoring early and often, lighting the lamp four times in the first half.
Less than 10 minutes into action, Teeghan Dodd gave the Texans the lead on her first goal of the season. Bass took a corner kick from the left of the goal and found Dodd’s head just outside the small box. Dodd headed the incoming corner high into the air that dropped just over the jumping hands of the goalkeeper in the top left of the goal.
Just over halfway through the first half, Cameron scored her first collegiate goal. Jenaya Brown brought the ball to the left of the goal, but a pair of defenders stood in between her and her third goal of the season. Her fancy footwork guided her past the first and drew another that she also crossed. With the goalie just in front of her feet from the goal, she flipped a pass to Cameron who had the right side of the goal to herself for her first career goal as a Texan.
Macy Hellwig kept the scoring going for the Texans, firing home the third goal of the night on her first goal of the season. Nicole Fels started the opportunity with a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper, then Jada Kamerman scooped up the deflection and dribbled past the keeper, but her shot was saved by a Lady Panther defender. Hellwig one-touched the rebound into an open goal to give the Texans a 3-0 lead.
With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Mila Bettinelli found the back of the net for the second time this season. Macie Witter sent a cross towards the box from about the midpoint of the Texans’ offensive half. Bettinelli found the pass from about eight out and headed it to the left of the goalkeeper for her first goal of the match.
Coming out of halftime, the Texans tacked on a fifth goal to take a 5-0 lead, which they would hold for the victory. Sydney Rouillard fired a shot from a pass from Bass to secure Tarleton’s third victory of the season.
The Texans outshot PVAMU, 27-6. Tarleton also held the advantage in shots on goal, 16-5. Tarleton State topped the Lady Panthers, 11-1, in corner kicks.
