
STEPHENVILLE – Texan Soccer had a record-breaking night tonight, defeating Schreiner University 9-0 in their kickoff to Family Weekend. The Texans are now 6-2-2 heading into conference play, clinching the best non-conference record in program history. Four Tarleton State athletes scored multiple goals against the Mountaineers, setting another new program record for the Purple and White.
Stevie Reynolds started the match out strong for TSU, scoring two goals within the first four minutes of play. Reynolds headed the first ball into the net off a lofted cross from Isa Bergeron-Prejean only 45 seconds into the game. Minutes later, Reynolds would score again, this time unassisted from the left side of the box.
Reegan Wagg, Phoebe Riley, and Gabrielle Williams scored three more goals for Tarleton State in the first half. Wagg’s goal came in the 18th minute of the game off a double assist from Reynolds and Jaycie Bass. Riley and Williams also scored only minutes apart, with assists from Charlie Shanahan and Adelaide Wyrzynski, respectively.
The Texans extended their lead with four more goals in the second half. Wagg and Avery Harr scored another set of back-to-back goals assisted by Reynolds and Sammy Schulze. Williams secured her second goal of the night off a penalty kick in the 70th minute. This marks the fourth penalty kick goal in program history. Riley notched the final goal of the night, scoring from the top of the box.
Mikayla Kendall started tonight’s match in the net while Rylie Bloomfield made her debut in the second half for her first appearance of the season.
The Texans recorded 34 shots for the night, with 20 shots being on goal, while Schreiner notched one single shot. TSU also had a 6-0 corner kick advantage and played 23 of its 27-woman roster.
Tarleton State will open conference play with two games on the road next week, their first match taking place at Utah Valley on Thursday, Sept. 25. They will then travel to Riverside, CA to take on California Baptist on Sunday, Sept. 28.
