STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State University’s Department of Performing Arts presents a Musical Theatre Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Workshop Theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center on the Stephenville campus.
The event, which will feature performances of select Broadway classics by musical theatre majors, is the first of its kind to be produced at Tarleton State.
“That is due to an incoming freshman musical theatre cohort this fall,” said John Greer, Visiting Professor of Dance and Theater. “Recruitment has grown, enabling the theater department to produce the showcase.”
The cast of Madison Freeman, Carolina Williams, Maya Castellano, Charlie Jay, Apple Wright, Annie Tenhet, Meagan Neagle, Cassidy Cabrera, Izzy Webb, Charlie Palm, Maegan NeagleandJacob Anderson will open the show with “The New World” from Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs from a New World.”
Williams, Jay, Wright, Castellano, Tenhet and Anderson team up on “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup from “And the World Goes Round,” followed by “Die Vampire Die,” from “Title of Show” performed by Freeman, Williams, Jay, Castellano, Tenhet and Cabrera.
Next, Tehnet, Castellano, Neagle, Palm and Webb take to the stage with “Forget About the Boy,” from “Thoroughly Modern Millie” followed by “The Rainbow Connection” from the “Muppet Movie” featuring Jay and Wright, and Freeman’s performance of “The Wizard and I” from “Wicked.”
The entire cast returns for the finale, “On My Way” from the musical “Violet.” Greer is the director, choreographer and musical director for the show. Technical direction is overseen by Prudence Jones, and Dr. Daeun Kim is accompanist.
Admission to the showcase is free.
