(May 23, 1932 – October 28, 2025)
Melba M. Tompkins, a long-time resident of Dublin, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2025, in Stephenville, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 23, 1932, in Lelia Lake, Texas, to Maggie Mae and Ray Adolphus Sisson, Melba was cherished for her role as ‘Mamaw’ and her talent as a wonderful artist. A lifetime member of the AQHA, she was deeply devoted to her family and enjoyed their gatherings. Melba loved to go back roading to pick garlic and Polk salad, and copperhead hunting with Mindy and Amie. She cherished sitting on her beloved porch listening to country music. Melba was an exceptional woman with a radiant smile, a true love of her land, who loved spending time at home on her place. She was so full of heart, always welcomed everyone in and always made you laugh. She was charming and witty, and a talented artist. Her presence was captivating: she left a luminous impression on this world. The memories we shared with her will live on forever.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, Maggie and Ray Sisson, 12 siblings, and her husband, Harry Tompkins. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sharon McConnell; granddaughters, Misty Grady and husband, Brad, Mindy Mathis and wife, Amie Cockerell; great-grandchildren, Mikala Grady, Mason Grady, Mackenzie Hanna, and Tristan, Braden and Memory Grady; great great-grandchildren, Berklee Grady, Adler Grady, and Parker Grady, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Wings Over Texas Hospice and the Stephenville Nursing and Rehab facility for the wonderful care provided to Melba.
