Van Austin Evans entered God’s healing arms on November 3, 2025. He was born in
Abilene, Texas, on January 2, 1947, to Van A. Evans (Barney) and Betty Jo Evans. His family moved to Stephenville when Van was in the sixth grade, where he grew up and graduated from Stephenville High School. He attended West Point and served in the Army at Fort Bliss.

He married his longtime girlfriend, Betty Thomas Evans, and together they had two children: Shelly Conboy Brown of Stephenville and Jeffery Evans of Annapolis, Maryland. He began his career in El Paso in the computer industry and took his family to Denver, San Francisco, and Phoenix before returning home to Stephenville. He was active in the Stephenville Lions Club, St.Luke’s Episcopal Church, and loved announcing the Yellow jacket games.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Shelly and Jeff; Jeff’s wife, Este Evans; five granddaughters—Kayla, Summer, Madison, Grace, and Piper—and one brand-new great-grandbaby, Louise; his brother, Scott Evans, and wife, Sherrie; and his sister, Ann Evans.

The family wishes to thank Olivia Sanchez with Waymakers and the Grandview unit at Glen Rose Nursing and Rehab Center for their loving care. A private family service will be held in the Serenity Garden at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of food and flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or the Lions Club.
