STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Tennis picked up its first win of the 2026 spring season thanks to a 7-0 victory over Weatherford College on Wednesday at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility.

The Texans did not lose a single set en route to its first win of 2026. Wednesday’s win marks the seventh straight victory for the Texans in their home opener.

Five Texans collected victories in both singles and doubles while a trio of Tarleton State players picked up their first singles wins of the season. Senior Ximena Morales and freshman Marissa Minetti highlighted the Texans’ home opener, with both players collecting a double bagel on their respective singles courts.

“It’s exciting to be back on our home court and this was a great way to get our string of home matches started,” head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. “I knew our team was going to fight and be competitive. The girls definitely showed up and played very well today.”

The senior doubles duo of Emma Persson and Clara Sobius set the tone to open the match, not dropping a game en route to a 6-0 doubles win on Court 3. Morales and sophomore Maria Castano followed suit by clinching the doubles point with their victory on Court 1 while the freshman duo of Minetti and Aya Ishii completed the doubles sweep. The Texans lost only a combined three games in doubles play.

Sobius’ strong play carried over into singles, only losing a one game on Court 6. The senior from Laval, Quebec, Canada, dominated from start to finish to pick up her first singles win of the season 6-1, 6-0 to put the Texans up by two points.

Starting her spring with an undefeated record and a WAC Singles Player of the Week honor, Minetti’s momentum continued. Minetti, who ended the fall season ranked No. 111 nationally by the ITA, defeated Amanda Skeltina to pick up her first collegiate double bagel. Her win made her the sixth freshman in the Division I era to have at least one double bagel in a season.

“Marissa has been incredibly competitive for us. Her focus is top-notch,” Douglas-Miron said. “She is doing everything we ask her to do in a match setting. She’s a competitive tennis player and she’s going to be exciting to watch. I can see a lot of progression from her already and she’s only going to get better from here.”

Minetti was not the only Texan to pick up a double bagel on Wednesday. Morales followed right behind her freshman teammate, collecting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rosmary Pena on Court 3 to clinch the match for the Texans. Morales had her first double bagel in spring competition since Feb. 10, 2023 (at UTSA).

The Texans played out the final three singles matches, with Ishii picking up her second win in singles in 2026 with a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Duru Kuscu dominated once again, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Sara Tublen on Court 5. Persson picked up a bagel in the first set and continued her poised play with a 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles spot to cap things off.

Tarleton State’s homestand continues on Saturday, January 31 when it takes on UTSA at 12 p.m. at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility. Admission to all Tarleton State Tennis home matches are free.
