NATCHITOCHES, La. – It only took one day for Tarleton State Tennis to get back to its winning ways, with the Texans defeating Northwestern State on the road 4-0 at the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.
The Texans took the doubles point and won the three singles matches needed to clinch the match. Sunday marked their first win on the road in 2026.
Sophomore Duru Kuscu shined in Sunday’s match, winning in doubles and picking up a singles win. Freshman Dariia Medviedieva won her second singles match of the season to help the Texans to a win.
Following sophomore Maria Castano and Kuscu’s 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, senior Emma Persson and freshman Aya Ishii clinched the doubles point for the Texans with a 6-4 win on Court 1 against Northwestern State’s Honoka Umeda and Sofi Garcia. Medviedieva’s win on Court 6 gave the Texans a 2-0 lead before senior Adeliya Mukhutdinova picked up the victory at No. 5 singles.
Kuscu dominated the action on Court 4 to seal the deal for the Texans. The sophomore from Turkey only lost one game in her 6-1, 6-0 victory against Northwestern State’s Lolita Hukasian. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished.
“We competed hard and fought for every point this weekend,” head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. “We came up short against a well-coached South Alabama team, but we learned a lot and came out swinging today against Northwestern State. As we continue to try and piece it together week after week, I’m watching some very high quality tennis. That makes me really proud and excited for what’s to come. We definitely got better this weekend and I’m proud of the effort our team put out.”
Tarleton State returns home on Friday afternoon to face App State at 11 a.m. at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility.
