STEPHENVILLE – After an outstanding weekend in the circle, Tarleton State Softball’s Shelby Schultz was named D1Softball’s Mid-Major Pitcher of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
This honor marks Schultz’s first weekly award this season and makes her the first Texan to earn a D1Softball weekly honor in 2026.
Tarleton State and Rhode Island squared off in a four-game series last weekend, the Texans’ first weekend series of the season. Tarleton State claimed the series 3-1, opening with an 11-1 run-rule victory on Friday before sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader, 2-1 and 11-3 in six innings, to improve to 21-13 overall.
Schultz dominated in the circle, going 2-0 while tossing two complete games. The Temple, Texas, native allowed just two runs on nine hits across 12.0 innings pitched while striking out 18 batters and walking only three. She held the Rams to a .231 batting average and posted a 1.17 ERA.
TSU hadn’t played a four-game series in eight years, last hosting Western New Mexico for a similar four-game series (DH Friday, DH Saturday) on March 23-24, 2018. The Texans swept that series 4-0, allowing just two runs across the four games with two shutouts.
As a team, Tarleton State scored 25 runs on 28 hits with 24 RBI, 44 tb, 7 doubles, and 3 home runs against the Rams.
Schultz has been a key piece in the circle for the Texans all season, leading the team with 49 strikeouts. The sophomore has logged 63.0 innings across 18 appearances with 11 starts, four complete games, seven wins and two saves. She has also limited opponents to a .275 batting average.
The Texans return to the Tarleton State Softball Complex on Tuesday for their highly anticipated matchup against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders head into the game ranked No. 2 in the nation behind Texas, coming off a five-game winning streak. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the game streamed on ESPN+.
